Serum Agglutinin Titres in Asthma and Hay Fever and in Controls
نویسنده
چکیده
The observation that ABO agglutinins are present in a wide variety of pollens (Denborough, 1964) and so must commonly be inhaled, and the knowledge that plant agglutinins are antigenic (Mikela, 1957), prompted us to study secretor status in allergic disease of the respiratory tract, namely in asthma and hay fever. The opportunity has been taken to measure the amount of isoagglutinins present in the serum and saliva of these subjects at the same time.

Rhazes and the First Clinically Exact Descrip-tion of Hay Fever (Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis)
Even though, the term 'allergy' first appeared in the medical literature in 1906, allergic diseases such as asthma, urticaria and eczema have been known for centuries, and their history dates back to antiquity.1 In the Middle Ages, 'rose fever' was a well-known entity with symptoms similar to hay fever.2The first description of the clinical symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) is ...
متن کاملSerum C-reactive protein in asthma and its ability in predicting asthma control, a case-control study
Background: Increased serum high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in asthma and its association with disease severity has been investigated in many studies. This study aimed to determine serum hs-CRP status in asthma versus healthy controls and to examine its ability in predicting asthma control. Methods: Serum CRP was measured by ELISA method using a high sensitive CRP kit. Severity...
متن کاملOdor-related Chronic Somatic Symptoms Are Associated with Self-Reported Asthma and Hay Fever: The Hordaland Health Study.
The aetiology behind odor-related chronic somatic symptoms (O-RCSS) is unknown, although both immunological and psychiatric causes have been suggested. The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence of self-reported asthma and hay fever and psychiatric symptoms in individuals having O-RCSS compared to individuals with similar chronic somatic symptoms (CSS) which were not odors-related,...
متن کاملImproving the power to detect risk variants for allergic disease by defining case-control status based on both asthma and hay fever.
Asthma and hay fever are likely to share hundreds if not thousands of genetic risk variants. Despite this, the extent to which the power to identify shared risk variants could be improved by considering information from both diseases when designing or analyzing genetic studies has not been studied in detail. Simulations were performed to quantify the power to detect an association between case-...
